This text is part of:
τάχα μέν τι καὶ . . . εἰκὸς δὲ καὶ . . .‘whereas, on the one hand, there may perhaps really have been some agreement . . . yet, on the other, in all probability . . .’ The repeated καὶ makes a concession to both views, while μὲν . . . δὲ qualify the former view. ἀπὸ ξυγκειμένου λόγου. λόγου though not absolutely necessary to the sense, is natural enough. For the shape of the expression cf. ἀπὸ παραγγέλματος (c. 99), ἀπὸ ξυνθήματος (iv. 67), ἀπὸ προειρημένου τινός (iv. 130). ἀνέχειν ‘waited.’ So ii. 18, vii. 48.
