ἐς Τειχιοῦσσαν, a distance of ten miles S.E. from Miletus. περιιδεῖν ἀποτειχισθεῖσαν Goodwin (M. and T. (old edit.) § 24, note 2) says ‘the aor. part. seems to express merely a momentary action, the time being the same that the aor. infin. would denote if it were used in its place.’ Rather perhaps the aorist participle gives a vivid realisation or anticipation of the thing as if accomplished, while the present pictures it as being done. In a literal rendering such an expression as ‘do not neglect us having been destroyed (διαφθαρέντας）’ differs much logically from ‘do not neglect us in the act of being destroyed (διαφθειρομένους）’; but the substitution of the former expression in the sense of the latter is only the result of nimble imagination. It = ‘do not let the time come when we shall have been destroyed without intervention by you.’
