ἄρχειν, further exegesis of ᾑρημένον after ἐς τὰ ἐπὶ Θρᾴκης ᾑρημένον, i.e. = ὤστε ἄρχειν.

Θάσον, which was connected with Thrace by position and by early possessions there (i. 100, iv. 107). Thasos had been an original member of the confederacy of Delos, but had subsequently quarrelled with and been reduced by Athens after a two years' siege (B.C. 463). Cf. i. 100, 101.
