τὸ πλεῖστον τοῦ πλοῦ, adverbial accus. of extent. 18 κατὰ πόδας = e vestigio, ‘close behind’; cf. iii. 98, iv. 126, v. 64. Polybius uses ἡ κατὰ πόδας ἡμέρα=‘the very next day.’ μιᾶς δεούσαις εἴκοσι Strombichides' eight and Thrasycles' twelve, minus one unaccounted for, probably left in Samos. ἐν Λάδῃ best known as the place where the Ionians were defeated by the Persians, B.C. 495. It controlled the harbour of Miletus. διὰ Τισς. καὶ Χαλ. with ἐγένετο.
