καὶ τὰ τοῦ πολέμου κ.τ.λ. Jowett points out the favourite opposition of λόγος and ἔργον implied in καὶ.

οἱ δέκα πρεσβευταί These words are probably rightly rejected by Herwerden. They are unnecessary to the sense, and πρέσβεις is the correct plural. πρεσβευταί occurs only here and in c. 86, § 1 (where it is equally unnecessary), except for Andoc. 28, 36, πρεσβευτὰς ὑμᾶς ἡμεῖς οἱ πρέσβεις ποιοῦμεν, where the reason of its presence is obvious. In inscriptions πρεσβευταί does not appear till the third century B.C.
