1 the common reading, τείνει, Ermerins alters to κτείνει on the authority of a Parisian ms. Maittaire holds τείνει to be an example of an active verb taken in a passive signification (ed. Wigan). We would render it by tenduntur, cntenduntur, “we are on the stretch.” Similar examples are in Latin; as, “prora avertit.” Virg. aen ... 104.
