Syncope

The suppression of a short vowel within a word is called Syncope (Greek “συγκοπή”, ‘cutting short’). E. g.

A 13, “θύγατρα” for “θυγατέρα”. A 202, “τίπτ᾽”（“ε”) for “τί ποτε”. A 275, “ἀποαίρεο” for “ἀποαιρέεο”.
