[*] 731. A wish referring to a present or past object, which (it is implied) is not or was not attained, may be expressed in Greek in two ways:— I. by the past tenses of the indicative, used as in unreal conditions, with εἴθε or εἰ γάρ; or II. by ὤφελον, aorist of ὀφείλω, owe, with the infinitive.
