ταλαῖφρον, ‘my poor sister’: cp. “ἄνολβος” (1026), “δύσποτμος” (O. T. 888), “μέλεος”, etc.

εἰ τάδ᾽ ἐν τούτοις: cp. O.C. 1443 “ταῦτα... ...τῇδε φῦναι”. The plur. ἐν τούτοις means either (1) ‘in these circumstances,’ as here, and Plat. Phaedo 101C: or (2) ‘meanwhile,’ inter haec, as Plat. Symp. 220B. The sing. “ἐν τούτῳ” usually=‘meanwhile’; more rarely ‘in this case’ (Thuc. 1.37), or ‘at this point’ (id. 2. 8).
