（Ἄλεξις). One of the most prolific and important writers of the Middle Attic Comedy, and uncle to Menander (q.v.). He was born at Thurii, B.C. 392, and is said to have lived to the age of one hundred and six years, and to have died on the stage with the crown of victory on his head. Some two hundred and forty-five plays are attributed to him, of which numerous extracts are still extant and display both wit and elegance. They are edited by Hirschig (1840). See Comoedia.
