SACIDAVA
Constanţa, Romania.
Ruins of a
Roman camp in the territory of the village of Mîrleanu.
Built in the 2d c. A.D., it was partly destroyed in the
3d c., and restored several times in the 4th and 5th c.
References in the itineraries are confirmed by several
inscriptions (one of them a Decius milestone), making
it possible to identify this camp with Sacidava (
Not. Dig.
or. 39-40) the seat of a cuneus equitum scutariorum.
Excavations have uncovered the circuit wall and a large
building inside the castrum.
