Phle'gethon

（Φλεγέθων), i. e. the flaming, a river in the lower world, is described as a son of Cocytus; butheis more commonly called Pyriphlegethon. (Verg. A. 6.265, 550; Stat. Tolwb. 4.522.)

In the article on Soranus, we find: "at this present time (1848)" and this date seems to reflect the dates of works cited. 1873 - probably the printing date.
