Clau'dius Ju'lius
or JOLAUS, a Greek writer of unknown date, and probably a freedman of some Roman, was the author of a work on Phoenicia (
Φοινικικά) in three books at least. (Steph. Byz.
s. vv. Ἂκη,
Ἰουδαία,
Δῶρος; Etym.
s. v. Γάδειπα.)
This appears to be the same Joläus, who wrote a work on the Peloponnesus (
Πελοποννησιακά, Schol.
ad Nicand. Ther. 521) ; he spoke in one of his works of the city Lampe in Crete. (Steph. Byz.
s. v. Λάμπη.)
