Pausilypum

（Παυσίλυπον, “grief-assuaging”). The name of a villa near Neapolis (Naples) which Vedius Pollio left by will to Augustus (Dio Cass. liv. 23; Pliny , Pliny H. N. ix. 167). The name has been given in modern times under the corrupted form Posilipo to the grotto between Naples and Pozzuoli, cut through the rock by the engineer Cocceius at the desire of Agrippa.
