Calpé

（Κάλπη, Κάλπις). A lofty mountain in the most southern parts of Spain, opposite to Mount Abyla on the African coast. These two mountains were called the Pillars of Hercules. Calpé is now called Gibraltar, from the Arabic Gebel Tarik—i. e. “mountain of Tarik,” Tarik being the Moorish general who first led the Moors into Spain, A.D. 710.
