Cydias
(
Κυδίας). A painter, born in the island of Cythnus, one of
the Cyclades, and who flourished B.C. 360. Hortensius, the orator, purchased his painting of
the Argonauts for 144,000 sesterces (nearly $5800). This same work was afterwards transferred
by Agrippa to the portico of Neptune (
Plin. H. N.
xxxv. 40).
