plumbi
subcarbonas. The ancient ceruse was prepared by exposing lead to the vapours of
vinegar, and the whole method is minutely described by Theophrastus (
De Lapid.
101). Similar processes are described by Dioscorides and Vitruvius. Cerussa was in common use
among women as a face enamel. See
