Aethiŏpis
(
Αἰθιοπίς). An epic in five books by Arctinus of Miletus,
one of the Cyclic poets, said to have been a pupil of Homer. The poem covers the portion of
the Trojan War from the death of Hector to the death of Achilles. The heroine is
Penthesilea (q.v.). This poem was by some added to
the
Iliad by a modification of the last line. See
