Recent excavations carried out near the modern village 18 km W of Istros (Histria) have revealed a rural complex, the earliest strata of which go back to the 6th c. B.C., the latest to the Roman period. The houses are fairly primitive and ringed with grain ditches, but the great number of pottery fragments—most of them imported wares—and the many coins found there suggest that this was a Greek advance post on the territory of the Getae which allowed the Istnians to amass their grains and dispose of their goods in the heart of the native population.
