παρ-ήορος (ἀείρω): hanging or floating beside; stretched out, sprawling, Il. 7.156; met., flighty, foolish, Il. 23.603; esp. παρήορος (ἵππος), a third or extra horse, harnessed by the side of the pair drawing the chariot, but not attached to the yoke, and serving to take the place of either of the others in case of need, Il. 16.471, 474. (Plate I. represents the παρήορος in the background as he is led to his place. See also the adj. cut, the first horse.)
