Lychnĭdus

Λύχνιδος), more rarely Lychnidium (Λυχνίδιον) or Lychnis (Λυχνίς). The ancient capital of the Dessaretii in the interior of Illyricum, situated on a height on the northern bank of Lake Lychnitis. In the Middle Ages it was the residence of the Bulgarian kings. The modern name is Achrita.
