Cyropŏlis
(
Κυρόπολις). A large city of Asia, on the banks of the
Iaxartes, founded by Cyrus. It was also called Cyreschata. Alexander destroyed it, and built
in its stead a city, called by the Roman geographers Alexandrea Ultima, by the Greeks,
Ἀλεξανδρεία Ἐσχάτη, of which the Latin is a
translation.
