Aspendus

（Ἄσπενδος). A city of Pamphylia, lying for the most part on a rocky precipice, on the banks of the river Eurymedon. It was a flourishing place even before the expedition of the younger Cyrus (Xen. Anab. i. 2, 12). It was here that the Athenian patriot Thrasybulus terminated his life. Being off the coast, he levied contributions from the Aspendians, who, seizing an opportunity when he was on shore, surprised him in his tent at night, and slew him (Hist. Gr. iv. 8).
