Statēra

A steelyard, an instrument of later invention than the balance (libra). Its parts were the yard (scapus), divided into fractional parts by points (puncta), and suspended by a hook or chain (ansa). The sliding weight was called aequipondium. See Vitruv. x. 3, 4; and Lancula; Libra.
