Numantia

The capital of the Arevacae or Arevaci, in Hispania Tarraconensis, and the most important town in all Celtiberia. It was situated near the sources of the Durius (Douro), on a precipitous hill. It was taken by Scipio Africanus the Younger after a long siege (B.C. 133) (Flor. ii. 18).
