Fuscĭna

τρίαινα). A trident, i. e. a large fork with several branches (usually three) employed by fishermen in spearing fish. It was the symbol of Neptune as the god of the ocean. By the class of gladiators known as retiarii it was used as a weapon. See Gladiatores.
