One who originates and proposes a lex or senatus consultum—in imperial times often used of the emperor.


2.

In law, the owner and sometimes the vendor (venditor) of goods; also the maker of a will.

A person whose concurrence is necessary to give effect to a legal transaction.

A person under whose authority any legal act is done. See Tutor.

In criminal law, the instigator of a crime.

In jurisprudence, a jurist to whom the ius respondendi had been given by the emperor. See Iurisconsulti.
