ZAKISOVAIA BALKA
Ukraine.
An unfortified
Hellenized settlement (800 x 100 m) ca. 3.2 km S of
Olbia along the high right bank of the S Bug. While
some archaic finds exist, the settlement reached its
height in the 4th-3d c. B.C. and came to an end in the
2d c. B.C. Among the various structures on the site was
a large rectangular dwelling consisting of nine rooms and
a paved courtyard. The walls of the house were made of
adobe on a stone foundation. Excavations suggest that
this was an agricultural village in close contact with
neighboring Olbia.
