MEHADIA
(“Ad Mediam”) Caras Severin, Romania.
Roman camp and civil settlement tentatively
identified with Ad Mediam (
Tab.Peut.). The camp (116 x
142.6 m), 3 km N of Mehadia was restored in the 3d c.
under Severus and in the 4th c. probably under Constantine the Great. Close to it are baths. The Cohors II
Delmatarum was stationed here. Among excavated finds
is an inscription in honor of Valerian and Gallienus (
CIL
III, 1597).
