COLFOSCO
Italy.
Remains of three bridges
in the N Italian zone of the river Piave, ca. 20 km N of
Treviso on the route of the Via Claudia Augusta, which
was begun by Drusus and completed by his son, the
emperor Claudius (
CIL V, 8002, 8003). This road, which
ran from Altino to the Danube, is evident at Colfosco in
the remains of three small bridges. Of the first only the
cobblestone paving of the shoulders is preserved; the
second, partly buried, is almost intact; the third has recently been restored and is formed on a single arch (4.2 x 2.9 m) in stone blocks. The width of the road is 5.65 m.
