BRAUGHING
Hertfordshire, England.
An
extensive settlement between Braughing and Puckeridge
which has been little explored. Most of the site has been
undisturbed since Roman times, and a large area has
been scheduled as an ancient monument. It lies on Ermine Street, 48 km N of London, at the junction with
roads to Colchester, Great Chesterford, and Baldock. A
considerable number of British coins as well as clay coinmolds suggest that it was an important oppidum before
the Roman conquest, and occupation continued throughout the Roman period. Defenses, or limits to the settlement, have yet to be defined.
