Gero'stratus
(
*Ghro/stratos), king of Aradus, in Phoenicia, was serving, together with the other princes of Phoenicia and Cyprus, in the Persian fleet, under Autophradates, when
Alexander, after the battle of Issus, advanced into Phoenicia.
But his son Straton hastened to submit to the conqueror, and Gerostratus himself soon after joined
Alexander, with the squadron under his command. Several of the other princes did the same, and the opportune accession of this naval force was of the most essential service to
Alexander in the siege of Tyre, B. C. 332. (Arrian, 2.13, 20.)
