HAMAXO´BII

Eth. HAMAXO´BII (Eth. Ἁμαξόβιοι, 3.5.19; Iamblich. de Abstin. 3.15; Pomp. Mel. 2.1.2; Plin. Nat. 6.12; Steph. B. sub voce Ἄβιοι), a people of Sarmatia, situated to the E. of the Scythian Alauni, who wandered with their waggons along the banks of the Volga, and belonged to the Sarmatian stock. (Schafarik, Slav. Alt. vol. i. p. 204.)
