COTTABANI
Eth.
COTTABANI (Eth.
Κατταβήνοι), a people of Arabia, to the east of the Omanitae, the modern
Omán, extending to the mountains of the
Asabi, at the entrance to the Persian gulf. (
Ptol. 6.7.) They are referred by Forster to the
Beni-Kahtan, or Joctanite family of Arabs, the classical name being merely an inversion of their well-known native appellation. (
Arabia, vol. i. p. lxxvi., vol. ii. p. 154.)
