columnae
triumphales, surmounted by the statue of the person in whose honour the column was
erected. Two still remain at Rome:
1.
the Column of Trajan (shown in the illustration), erected by Apollodorus, A.D. 104; and
2.
the Column of M. Aurelius Antoninus.
