Ariaeus
(
Ἀριαῖος). The friend of Cyrus, and commander of the left
wing of his army at the battle of
Cunaxa (q.v.) in
B.C. 401. After the death of Cyrus he deserted the Greeks, and thus procured his pardon from
King Artaxerxes (
Xen. Anab. i. 8, bibl>etc.).
